【課文】
My daughter, Jane, never dreamed of receiving a letter from a girl of her own age in Holland. Last year, we were travelling across the Channel and Jane put a piece of paper with her name and address on it into a bottle. She threw the bottle into the sea. She never thought of it again, but ten months later, she received a letter from a girl in Holland. Both girls write to each other regularly now. However, they have decided to use the post office. Letters will cost a little more, but they will certainly travel faster.

我的女兒簡從未想過會接到荷蘭一位同 齡姑娘的來信。去年，當(dāng)我們橫渡英吉利海峽時，簡把寫有她姓名和住址的一張紙條裝進了一只瓶子，又將瓶子扔進了大海。 此后她就再沒去想那只瓶子。但10個月以后，她收到了荷蘭一位姑娘的來信�，F(xiàn)在這兩位姑娘定期通信了。然而她們還是決定利用郵局。這樣會稍微多花點錢，但肯定是快得多了。

1 dream [動詞]夢見，夢想
一般用法為dream + that 從句，或dream of doing sth.
其過去式和過去分詞均有兩種，dreamed或dreamt。
I never dream of buying a house in Hangzhou.
我從沒想過在杭州買套房子。
2 we were travelling across the Channel.
這里的the Channel 特指英吉利海峽。
3 throw [動詞]投，擲，拋出
throw的過去式為threw，過去分詞為thrown。
throw sth. into sth. 把某物扔進某處
throw sth. to sb. 把某物扔向某人，其目的在于“傳遞”，介詞to表示行為方向，動機是善意的。
throw sth. at sb. 把某物打向某人，其目的在于“打”，介詞at表示動作在于企圖攻擊的目標，動機是惡意的。

5 receive sth. from sb. 從某人那里收到某物
I received a bar of chocolate from my sister.
我從姐姐那里收到一條巧克力。
6 decide [動詞]決定，判斷
decide to do sth.
表示決定的詞還有determine，resolve等，它們之間的細微區(qū)別如下：
decide 側(cè)重指經(jīng)過思考、比較、討論或詢問之后做出的決定
determine 指經(jīng)過深思熟慮之后決心做某事并堅持下去。
resolve 語氣很強，強調(diào)堅定不移的信念，暗含遠大抱負和堅強決心。
He decided to study abroad after one-month consideration.
在考慮了一個月后，他決定去國外留學(xué)。
